Our holistic, comprehensive advice ensures that your entire situation is thoroughly considered – not just your investments. Many financial advisers focus on a specific area of your finances, such as investments, superannuation, or insurance. While each of these areas is important, advice that addresses only one aspect of your wealth can lead to costly oversights. This is because decisions in one area can impact other parts of your financial picture.

With our extensive experience, we provide expert guidance on your overall situation and remain open to exploring options outside of our core expertise. If your needs require the involvement of another qualified professional – such as in law, tax, or property – we will let you know what these areas are and coordinate with your chosen expert. If you don’t already have a trusted professional, we can organise an introduction to help you find someone suitable.

Trust is one of the most important things in your relationship with your financial adviser. Knowing we are truly independent contributes to our clients being reassured that everything we do centres around making a meaningful difference in their life, with no hidden agenda.

And being able to say we are independent is not taken lightly – in fact, the government restricts the use of the words “independent” and “unbiased” to be used only by advisers who meet specific criteria outlined in Section 923A of the Corporations Act. It’s so difficult to meet these requirements that only a very small number of advisers in Australia describe themselves as being independent. We’re proud to say we meet those high standards.

At Brisbane Independent Financial Advisory Pty Ltd, we provide genuinely independent advice – free from commissions, free from incentives to recommend one product over another, with no in-house products, no payments made to us when we buy or sell investments for our clients or when we introduce our clients to other professionals, and with a fixed fee based on the service you receive (not based on how much we invest for you, or which products or solutions we recommend).

This is a personal choice. Those who like to plan ahead typically will enjoy engaging a planner sooner rather than later as the planning process can help you to have a strategy and framework in place to make the most of your wealth throughout your lifetime. And the ongoing support with life decisions also helps you navigate life’s choices with more confidence. But others prefer to wait until they are approaching a significant life event to seek guidance. We encourage our clients to live a life that feels right to them and to make informed decisions – the decision on when to engage a financial adviser is a choice we treat no differently.

Choosing a financial adviser is a deeply personal experience. Things you value will differ from one person to the next, but most commonly include the connection you have with your prospective adviser, whether you feel heard, how much experience and knowledge the adviser has in the areas you want them to focus on for you, and whether the process they follow is what you are looking for.

To make your own decision on this, the first step is to contact us.

Absolutely! Although our office is in Brisbane, we help clients across Australia. We also have clients overseas who have some Australian assets. Depending on your preferences, we can meet face-to-face, over the phone, via email, or using Teams, Zoom, Facetime, or another suitable video conferencing option.
The first step is to contact us. Let us know what you are looking for and a little about yourself, and we will share a bit more about who we are and how we can help. Next is a meeting with our Managing Director and Senior Adviser, Rebecca Scarrabelotti – this meeting is complimentary and typically lasts for around 2 hours. The focus is on finding out more about you, your current situation, and importantly your goals, objectives, and priorities.
Our office is located in the Greenhouse building, in the heart of West Village at 97 Boundary Street, West End.
When meeting with us, there is Secure Parking at West Village, accessible from 21 Mollison Street. It is complimentary for the first 2 hours, or $5 for 3 hours then $9 if you reach 4 hours. This may come in handy if you want to spend time in West Village before/after our meeting. Please note that the maximum vehicle height is 2.3 metres.
For our initial meeting, we will send a list of information to bring with you – this will include details on you, and any trusts, companies, self-managed super funds, and foundations you may be involved in. This information is important as it will allow us to consider the areas in which we can add the most value for you. Some people prefer to send this through prior to the meeting to streamline our time together, while others like to provide the information in person.
Our fee is paid annually for the 12 months ahead. This covers everything we do – all the advice and strategies we prepare and provide to you, implementation of the advice, our meetings, liaising with your chosen professionals, and access to your adviser as a sounding board. The amount each client pays depends on the work involved in taking care of their needs. This type of pricing is called a ‘fee-for-service’ arrangement. Importantly, our fee is fixed for the 12 month engagement period, and does not change depending on the products or solutions we recommend, or how much we invest for the client. Shortly after our initial meeting, we will confirm the fee for us to take care of you. We will only begin work for you once you have let us know you would like to engage our services.
Definitely. It is our job to help you make informed decisions. We will only act on your behalf after providing you with advice explaining our reasons for our recommendations, and with your authority.
No. We provide advice to clients who have superannuation with an industry super fund, or with a financial institution or retail super fund. We also provide advice to clients with a small APRA fund or Self-Managed Super Fund (SMSF). We do not need you to move from one super fund to another for us to help you, and we can look at whether your superannuation arrangements are right for you.
